CrossdateR is a collection of functions, which help to visually assess
the quality of crossdated tree-ring series and to detect the location
of missing and overlapping tree rings. CrossdateR can be understood as
a visual extension to COFECHA, a widely used tool to crossdate tree rings.
The graphic functions have been written in R, a highly flexible programming
language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. R is
Open Source software, free and platform-independent.

On the left the R console where the commands are executed, in front two graphic windows showing two tree-ring series and a master chronology, on the right a script file. Top left shows the R console, bottom left the script file, on the right a graphic window showing two tree-ring series and a master chronology. In core C045094 (black line), a missing tree ring is inserted in 1870 (top), 1871 (middle), and 1872 (bottom). A second core (C044096, in blue) is shown as well as a master chronology (red). In core C047094 (black line), 1831 and 1832 are false/overlapping rings. Top: The entire black curve has been shifted backward by 2 years (gray curve); bottom: the right (outer) part of C047094 has been shifted from 1833 to 1831 (gray curve). |
