The Forest Reserve Network of ETH and WSL

In 1948, Prof. Leibundgut at ETH founded a network of forest reserves, in which forest structure and composition are periodically monitored following a unified methodology. These time series with a length of up to 70 years are highly valuable for a range of scientific questions in forest ecology. Since 2006, the project ist continued based on a slightly modified design as a joint project between BAFU (The Swiss Environmental Protection Agency), WSL and ETH. Since then, the inventory campaigns are conducted by WSL. Further information on this long-term project can be found here: external pagehttps://www.wsl.ch/en/forest/biodiversity-conservation-and-primeval-forests/natural-forest-reserves.html.
